Liquid Nation Ball was originally created by Santiago and Fernando Aguerre to support the humanitarian efforts of SurfAid. In 2006 the brothers donated the ball to the SIMA Humanitarian Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation and the ball now serves as the official fundraising event for the SIMA Humanitarian Fund. Since 2004, Liquid Nation Ball has donated more than $1.58 million to surf-related, non-profit humanitarian organizations. www.sima.com

Attendees from SurfAid included our very own Liquid Nation Ball #5, SIMA Humanitarian of the year recipient, Dr Dave Jenkins, CEO Andrew Judge, USA board members Paul Riehle, Frank Ragen and Aaron Behle and USA staff Randal Schober and Joanna McGowan.

Once again Fernando showed amazing fashion sense by sporting a pink outfit in tribute to ‘Keep A Breast’ and breast cancer awareness which included a custom painted Panama hat, pink 70s flowered jacket, and hot pink canvas shoes. Overall the event was a huge success with everyone joining together to support SurfAid and 12 other wonderful organizations.

Thanks again to SIMA, Fernando and Santi for your ongoing support of SurfAid.

SurfAid’s Health Program operates in Nias and the Mentawai Islands, a remote group of islands off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. The program targets mothers and their children and aims to reduce mortality in children aged under five and levels of suffering that are associated with chronic illness and disease.

Groups of women volunteers from each community are the core of SurfAid’s health program. Together with staff from the local health department, they provide essential health services to pregnant women, mothers and children. These women are critical to reducing maternal and child mortality at the village level and are our frontline in improving the health and wellbeing of communities.

During the evening, SurfAid supporters bid on over 50 silent auction packages followed by four amazing live auction items including a legendary Laird Hamilton SUP Package donated by Laird Hamilton, an eight-day Rote Island Indo Trip donated by WaterWays Surf Adventures, a VIP Trip to the Quiksilver Pro New York 2012 from Quiksilver Foundation, and a Scott Winer photograph of Kelly Slater framed and donated by IndoTeak Design.

Guests were treated to complimentary drinks by Patrón, Kona Brewing Company and Rosenthal Wines and enjoyed a rollicking live music performance by Donavon Frankenreiter.  Donavon and his band graciously raised additional money for SurfAid by signing a Córdoba ukulele (donated by Billabong) and allowing a SurfAid supporter to join them on-stage to play along for one song.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to making Behind the Palms: Malibu such an incredible success – especially the Malibu community for their amazing love and generosity.

We hope you will join us again next year (stay tuned for the date)!
